Leveraging the Bullet Coach

Our Bullet Coach can provide specific feedback on your bullet points to help make them more impactful and relevant

Updated over a week ago

NOTE: On a free Teal account, you will have 5 credits to use for Bullet Coach Analysis runs.

Teal+ members have unlimited bullet analysis reports.

Opening the Bullet Coach

After you've opened the resume you'd like to edit, head to your Work Experience section. The Bullet Coach will appear on the right side of your page when you either create a new bullet point or edit an existing one.

Create a New Bullet

Clicking "Add a Bullet" will open a blank Bullet Score page. This score won't be updated until you add content to your bullet and click "Run Analysis."

NOTE: If you are a free Teal user, you'll see a banner with a button that allows you to run a bullet analysis. Clicking this button will deduct a credit.

Edit an Existing Bullet

When you edit an existing bullet or click "Improve with AI," the Bullet Coach will automatically run an analysis on that particular statement and provide you with feedback.

Once you make changes to the bullet, your Bullet Score will become outdated, and you'll need to click "Run Analysis" to see your updated feedback.

NOTE: If you are a free Teal user, the first automatic bullet analysis that the Bullet Coach runs will not count towards your free credits! All analyses after the first one will be deducted from your credit balance.

Using the Bullet Coach

Once you have the Bullet Coach open, you'll see feedback covering various components of the bullet you're working on: Overall Score, Character & Word Count, Spelling, Grammar, Metrics, Action Verbs, Time Statement, and Keywords.

Overall Score

Your overall bullet score will be displayed at the top of your Bullet Coach page. This score is a weighted average of all the bullet components that you receive feedback on and will update according to the changes you make.

Character & Word Count

The exact character and word counts of your bullet will be displayed alongside a gauge with a recommended range for both categories. The counters will update as you edit your bullet.

Spelling & Grammar

The Spelling and Grammar components provide feedback on the spelling and grammar within your bullet.

  • A green circle with a check means that your bullet does not have any spelling or grammatical issues.

  • A red circle with an 'X' will appear if your bullet has any spelling or grammatical errors.

NOTE: The Spelling and Grammar components follow our platform's built-in spelling and grammar checker. If you have this function turned off, you will not see accurate feedback in this area.

Metrics & Time Statement

The Metrics and Time Statement components check whether or not you have a measurable achievement/quantitative data within your bullet point.

  • A green circle with a check means that your bullet contains a measurable accomplishment/impact.

  • A red circle with an 'X' will appear if your bullet is missing an achievement data point.

Action Verbs

The Action Verbs component looks for an action verb at the beginning of your bullet.

  • A green circle with a check means that your bullet contains an action verb.

  • A red circle with an 'X' will appear if your bullet is missing an action verb.

Keywords

The Keywords component will search your bullet for recognizable skills that are present in our keywords library.

  • A green circle with a check means that your bullet contains a keyword.

  • A red circle with an 'X' will appear if your bullet is missing a keyword.

Outdated Bullet Score

As you edit your bullet, you'll see your overall score replaced with a "Score Outdated" notice. To clear this, you would need to run the bullet analysis again after making your bullet updates to get your new score.
