Export Your Resume & Cover Letter
Updated over a month ago

Looking to export your resume and cover letter from the Resume Builder? Here’s how!

Accessing Your Export Menu

In your Resume Builder, open the resume you'd like to export and click the "Export PDF" button located in the upper right corner of the page. You'll see the option to export your resume, cover letter, or both.

It's important to note that when you select "Resume and Cover Letter," both documents will be exported in one PDF file. If you would like to save separate copies of your resume and cover letter, you'll need to select individual options.

NOTE: At this time, PDF is the only option for export. However, we're hoping to expand Teal with the function to export to .docx files in the future!

Exporting Your Resume

To export only your resume, click the "Resume" option from the dropdown menu. To export both your resume and cover letter, select "Resume and Cover Letter."

Using the Resume Export Guide

Once you've made a selection, a Resume Export Guide will appear on the right side of your page. This is where you can do one last resume content check before exporting the final document.

The side panel is broken down into three sections: (1) Resume Sections, (2) Analysis, and (3) Job Matching. Each contain tips related to each section to optimize your resume for an application, and any related changes made to your resume will be reflected in this panel.

As you're working through the Resume Export Guide, you can collapse and open the sections as needed by clicking either the section title or the carrot (arrow symbol).

Resume Sections

The "Resume Sections" box ensures that your resume includes content sections that should appear in your application. At the top of this box, you'll see a symbol that indicates that criteria's current status, as well as an improvement tip to help you clear it.

  • A green circle with a check means that your resume includes the "critical" sections, which are Contact Information and Work Experience, and a recommended section.

  • A blue circle with an exclamation point indicates a recommended section is missing and requires attention, like Education.

  • A red circle with an 'X' will appear if you are missing the "critical" sections mentioned above.

Greyed out section titles mean that you do not currently have them active in your resume. Clicking "Add More Sections" will take you back to your Resume Builder Preview page, allowing you to continue editing your document.

Analysis

The "Analysis" section displays the score your resume received from our Analysis tool. If you resume scored below our recommendation of 60%, you'll see that guidance in the side panel.

  • A green circle with a check means that your resume has scored 60% or above in the Analysis report.

  • A blue circle with an exclamation point means your resume has scored below 60% and should be reviewed.

Clicking "Improve Analysis Score" will take you to our Analysis tool, where you can view our resume improvement recommendations and make changes as you see fit to improve your score.

Job Matching

If your resume is matched to a job, you will see your Match Score and basic job details (i.e., Job Title and Location) in the "Job Matching" section. You'll see additional guidance if your Match Score is below our suggested 50%.

  • A green circle with a check means that your resume has scored 50% or above in Job Matching.

  • A blue circle with an exclamation point means your resume has scored below 50% and should be reviewed.

  • A red circle with an 'X' will appear if your resume has not been matched to a job yet.

Clicking "Match Job" or "Improve Matching Score" will take you to our Job Matching tool, in which you can either connect your resume to a job or switch the role it's matched to. You'll then be able to review the surfaced keywords from that role description and revise your resume content accordingly!

Once You've Cleared the Export Guide

After you feel like you've revised your resume enough, or you've achieved green checks in all three pre-export sections, you're ready to export your resume! Click the "Export" button located at the top of the side panel to download your PDF.

NOTE: Within the "Job Matching" section, you'll see the option to toggle on "Move job to applied." This will automatically update the status of the job that is connected to the resume you are exporting from "Bookmarked" to "Applied" in your Job Tracker to save you the extra step!

Exporting Your Cover Letter

To export only your cover letter, click the "Cover Letter" option from the dropdown menu. To export both your resume and cover letter, select "Resume and Cover Letter."

Clicking the "Cover Letter" button will initiate the download process for your cover letter, and you will see it download similarly to when you export a resume.

"Resume and Cover Letter" will prompt you to complete the Resume Export Guide prior to exporting both files.

If attempt to download a cover letter that you have not yet created, you'll see an error message reminding you to generate one prior to exporting.
