Access the Cover Letter Generator
With a resume open in your Resume Builder, click on the "Cover Letter" option in the toolbar towards the top of the page. A generator should appear on the right-hand side of your Resume Builder.
Match a Job
In order to generate a cover letter, your resume must be matched to a job. If you're not matched to a job, you'll see the following on your Cover Letter page:
Clicking into the search bar will open a dropdown menu that displays your bookmarked roles in your Job Tracker. Select the role you'd like to generate a cover letter for – this will match the role to your resume as well.
You can also switch the matched job at any time by clicking the "Switch Job" button.
By matching your resume to a job, the Cover Letter Generator will pull details directly from the Job Description alongside your resume to make the cover letter relevant to the role you're applying to!
NOTE: If you have already generated a cover letter, make sure to export it or copy it to your desktop before switching jobs. It will not be stored once you have switched jobs!
Free Teal members will have 2 credits to use for cover letter generation, and Teal+ members have unlimited cover letter generations.

Generate a Cover Letter
After matching your resume to a job, click the "Write with AI" button to open the settings menu for your cover letter.
Here, you'll be able to select the length, tone, and job description details to include in your cover letter. You can also enter a custom prompt for generation!
Pick Your Length
Choose from three different length options: "Short," "Medium," and "Long."
Choose Your Tone
Choose from "Casual," "Formal," or "Match Job Description."
Emphasize Job Description Qualifications
Select responsibilities or requirements from the job description to inform the cover letter generation.
Enter a Custom Prompt
Provide a few of your own requirements for the cover letter generation. Click "Load an Example" for help!
After you've made your selections, click "Apply" to generate your cover letter!
NOTE: As with any AI product, we always recommend reading through the generated text, confirming everything written is accurate, and making any changes necessary.
The AI doesn't know you and your experiences outside of what it's contextualizing from your input details! So, be sure you take a moment to review and adjust as needed.
Customize Your Cover Letter
Once the cover letter has been generated, take some time to review the initial draft.
If you'd like to make changes to the document, you can either make adjustments directly within the WYSIWYG editor or click "Improve with AI" to regenerate the cover letter with new customizations.
