Already matched your resume to a role?
Once your match has been generated, you can review and edit the keywords, change the job description, take job notes, and switch the matched job.
Keywords
In the free version of Teal, you will see the top five keywords per job surfaced from the job description. Teal+ gives you access to the full list of keywords! More on Teal+ can be found in your account settings HERE.
Missing & Matched Keywords
In "Keywords" tab, you'll see which keywords are Missing from your resume and which are already Matched, with recommendations categorized by hard skills, soft skills, and emphasis words.
The more of these keywords you add to your resume, the higher you'll see your match score climb!
Matched Keywords
For keywords already matched, you can toggle "Highlight" on to show you exactly where they are in the resume. You can also highlight all of your matched keywords at once by checking the "Highlight All" option!
A purple exclamation mark indicates that a keyword is within your resume content but the bullet is not "active" (i.e., toggled on with the corresponding checkbox).
To activate this keyword, you'll want to check the checkbox associated with the content.
Ignore Keywords
Maybe a surfaced keyword doesn't feel totally relevant, or you're not interested in focusing on that element of the job description. You can choose to "ignore" keywords by clicking "Ignore."
Depending on how many keywords you ignore, you may see the Match Score improve. This is because you'd be matching from a smaller pool of keywords.
Custom Keywords
The ability to add custom keywords from the Job Summary is a Teal+ feature.
If you see a keyword in the Job Summary that wasn’t originally surfaced, you can add your own custom keyword! For a more in-depth guide on our custom keywords feature, check out this article HERE.
Review the Job Description
In the "Job Description" tab, you can view additional context for the surfaced keywords within the Job Summary.
You'll also be able to read and edit the full job description by toggling on "Show full job description."
Add Job Notes
Head to the "Job Notes" tab to quickly access and edit your notes for that particular role.
Match to Another Job
To see how the same resume may align with a different job description, scroll to the top of the page and click the yellow "Switch Job" button.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I automatically add keywords to my resume?
How do I automatically add keywords to my resume?
At this time, the Job Matching tool only provides recommendations by surfacing the keywords and will not automatically adjust your resume for you. It is up to you to determine which keywords are most applicable to your experiences and where they would best belong in your resume.
Some common approaches to incorporating keywords into your resume include editing existing experiences, creating new bullet points, and adding to the Skills section. For more on adding/editing resume content, check out this article.
Why am I seeing some irrelevant keywords?
Why am I seeing some irrelevant keywords?
Our Job Matching tool uses a phrase library to surface keywords for your resume, which is similar to how many ATSes often search for keywords used in job postings. While the technology does its best to contextualize keywords, it's not as human as you or me – on occasion, it may overcompensate and pull in various keywords to ensure it captures any phrases that are potentially relevant.
We always recommend ignoring any keywords that you don't feel are relevant to your experiences or the role. This will help you clean up your keywords list and focus in on what you'd like to include.
Is the Match Score reflective of an ATS score?
Is the Match Score reflective of an ATS score?
Many companies can use an ATS and/or AI-screening tools to automate the initial screening process by automatically filtering applications based on a set list of criteria. These tools can scan resumes for keywords, relevant experience, and other credentials set by the recruiter.
Given the variety of ATSes and job descriptions, there isn't a universal process for determining a resume's "ATS compliance score." While our Job Matching tool aims to help show how closely your resume aligns with a connected job description based on its emphasized keywords, there may be other job-specific criteria on the employer's end that we cannot cover within the Match Score (like their required number of years of experience, for example).
The Match Score is meant to guide alignment between your resume and the job description. Incorporating these keywords helps the recruiter more quickly scan your resume and find impact by using language that's reflective of the job description and function of the role.
Can I add my own keywords?
Can I add my own keywords?
Yes! Teal+ members have the ability to add custom keywords they'd like to see that weren't originally surfaced from the Job Summary.
More details on this feature can be found HERE.
Why is the Job Matching tool getting stuck/endlessly loading?
Why is the Job Matching tool getting stuck/endlessly loading?
Keywords can only be surfaced from the Job Summary. If you're experiencing a long load time for your keywords, double check that a Job Summary has been properly generated for that particular role in your Job Tracker.
If your Job Summary has not been fully generated, edit the job description and ensure that:
A full job description exists and is saved to that role
The job description does not have any unusual formatting (e.g., symbols) or content that is irrelevant to the role (e.g., company bio)
