Getting Started

To access the Cover Letter Generator:

Navigate to Resume Builder from the left sidebar
Select an existing resume or create a new one
Click the Cover Letter tab at the top of the resume editor

Creating Your Cover Letter

Step 1: Match to a Job

Before generating a cover letter, you'll need to match your resume to a job.

Select a job from your Job Tracker
Search for a job title
Add job description manually

Step 2: Configure AI Settings

Click the settings icon to open Cover Letter AI Settings. You'll see five tabs to customize your cover letter:

📏 Length

Choose how long your cover letter should be:

Short — 100-200 words
Medium — 200-300 words (default)
Long — 300-400 words

🎭 Tone

Select the writing style for your cover letter:

Match Job Description — Automatically mirrors the tone of the job posting (default)
Formal — Traditional and professional tone, great for corporate roles
Casual — Relaxed and approachable style, ideal for startups or creative positions

📋 Job

Select specific statements from the job description to emphasize in your cover letter. The AI will focus on addressing these key requirements.

✏️ Custom Prompt

Write your own instructions for the AI, or click "Load an example" to see sample prompts. Use this to:

Highlight specific achievements or experiences
Request a particular structure or format
Add context the AI should consider

🤖 Model

Choose which AI model generates your cover letter:

Claude Sonnet 4.5 ⭐ Recommended — Great balance of quality and speed
Claude Opus 4.6 ⭐ Premium — Highest quality results with nuanced detail
GPT-5.2 ⭐ Powerful and versatile
GPT-5.2 Chat ⚡ Fast results for quick iterations

Step 3: Generate and Edit

Click "Apply" to generate your cover letter with the selected settings. Once generated, you can:

Edit the text directly in the editor
Adjust settings and regenerate
Use "Copy Text" to copy to your clipboard

Version History

Click the "History" button to view and restore previous versions of your cover letter. This is helpful if you want to compare different generations or undo changes.
